The Work

The Work

Fellow covert operative, I want to share my credentials with you. I'm grateful to you for coming along on this secret mission, and this is why I think I'm qualified when it comes to writing AND interchronological transdimensional radical resistance.

As a writer: my books have been called “must-reads” and “bests of the year” by NPR, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, and O: The Oprah Magazine, among others. They've also been banned in Florida, and stolen by AI. I've sold seventy short stories, to places like The Kenyon Review, Vogue Italia, Reactor, Asimov's, and more. I've received the Nebula, Locus, and Shirley Jackson Awards; I've been a judge for the Lambda Literary Awards, the Neukom Literary Institute Awards, and the Imagine 2200 Climate Fiction Short Story Contest.

As a community organizer: I spent fifteen years fighting for social justice in New York City. Taking leadership from unhoused folks with the awesome organization Picture the Homeless, I fought for housing and an end to police abuse. I organized hundreds of protests; I helped get dozens of bad policies repealed and good laws passed. Prior to that, I was an activist for many years working with other Jews who stand in solidarity with Palestinians, and opposing the global wars and domestic oppression that followed 9/11.

Hope is at the heart of both practices. Hope and storytelling are the key to my writing and my activism, and they combine in a way that feels super natural and exhilarating here on this newsletter.

You can buy my books from independent booksellers here, but they're also available in audio format and via your local library!
